Qingdao is more than just Tsingtao

19th June, 2008
For the 3rd time in my life, I stepped into Beijing Capital International Airport. No idea what this business trip had in store for me but I was looking forward to having cheap Tsingtao beer and Bali-style beaches

I was deep in thought, pondering about the wonderful possibilities.

Lauren was concentrating on not toppling over with her 2 heavy luggages.

We can’t [...]

I am the Cheese Machine

*Warning: Very Gross Mushy Post Ahead*
When we checked out of our hotel on Sunday I accidentally left my water tumbler behind in the hotel room. While many people would not find this to be particularly distressing,I was distraught because this tumbler was a very special gift from THE BEST BOYFRIEND EVER. Just before I left [...]

Beijing: Fatter, Faster, Cheaper

When we’re not doing touristy things, Pauline and I spend much of our time in Beijing stuffing our faces like the true blue Singaporeans that we are. Note the evidence:
1. At Gu-lou with our colleagues after work one Friday night, where we had incredibly spicy chicken wings and beer, followed by Yunan cuisine

2. During the [...]

Where’s my Tsingtao!

The past 4 and half days in Qingdao was great! We never slept better – all thanks to our fantastic hotel. Qingdao is surrounded by the sea and it was unexpectedly developed. We were reminded of Singapore and Hk! The air in Qingdao was a LOT fresher. My booger (colloquially known as pi sai), which [...]

SURPRISE!

SURPRISE! LauPau is reporting to you live from Qingdao! We’re here on our very first business trip (to attend a seminar organized by the China Merchant Bank! Everything is in mandarin though, so please don’t ask us what it’s about, we’re just here for the wireless and the free lunches), and we’ll be here till [...]

Mount Hua (Day 3)

Climbing Mount Hua was no doubt the highlight of my Xi’an trip. I was honestly quite hesitant about climbing it initially because I did a google search on Mt. Hua and was quite horrified to find pictures where people looked like they’re rock climbing. This is certainly no Bukit Timah hill! At some points, you [...]

Super xi’an (day 2)

We’ve had a really long week; All of a sudden on Wednesday, we were told there’s a top priority project that is due on Monday (i.e today) and there were 100 pages worth of incomprehensible financial garb to be translated. We even had to go back to work on Saturday. : (
On the second day [...]

Very xi’an (Day 1)

Good morrow to one and all, I am finally back home in Beijing!
I had an amazing time in Xi’an. I met many nice and friendly locals, marveled at the beauty of the city and THE FOOD WAS AWESOME. I was reluctant to leave Xi’an and I attribute 70% of that to the great people in [...]

With love inside it

Ooh heaven is a place on earth!

I’ve decided to lump both Saturday and Sunday updates together so as to prevent further weekend-update debts!
Saturday
It was a slow and lazy Saturday morning.
9a.m: I was woken up by the blinding sun. Drew the curtains but still unable to get back to sleep.
9.30a.m: I shower while Lauren watches V for Vendetta on her [...]
